Nitriding Treatment Application:
Nitriding treatment forms nitrides (such as iron nitrides) on the
metal surface, greatly enhancing the surface hardness (typically
reaching 50-100 HRC), which is much higher than that of the base
material itself. This high-hardness surface layer can effectively
resist friction, wear, and scratches, extending the service life of
parts—especially suitable for high-frequency contact mechanical
components like gears, bearings, and shafts.
The diffusion of nitrogen atoms creates compressive stress in the
surface layer of the material, offsetting the tensile stress
generated in parts under cyclic loads. This improves their fatigue
resistance, which is crucial for components subject to repeated
impacts or vibrations (such as automotive engine valves and
connecting rods), reducing the risk of fracture due to fatigue.
The formed nitrided layer has a dense structure, which can block
direct contact between moisture, oxygen, and corrosive media with
the base material. This enhances the metal's corrosion resistance
to a certain extent, especially in humid or mildly corrosive
environments.
Unlike processes such as overall quenching, nitriding treatment
only strengthens the surface layer, while the base material retains
good toughness and ductility. This "hard exterior and tough
interior" characteristic allows parts to withstand surface wear
while resisting impact loads, avoiding brittle fracture.
It is suitable for various alloy structural steels, tool steels,
stainless steels, etc., and is particularly effective for steels
containing alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and
